Installing Schools Broadband SSL Certificate
As part of our commitment to internet safety, HTTPS inspection is applied to all users of the Trust WiFi system. To ensure proper access, a security certificate provided by Schools Broadband must be installed on every device intending to use the Trust WiFi.
Download the Schools Broadband SSL Certificate
To install an SSL certificate on an iPhone, follow these steps:
Step 1: Download the Certificate
- Use Safari on your iPhone to download the certificate file. You can either receive the certificate via email or download it from a trusted website.
- After clicking on the certificate link (usually a .crt or .pem file), Safari will prompt you to allow the download. Tap Allow.
Step 2: Install the Certificate
- After the download, go to the Settings app.
- At the top, you should see Profile Downloaded. Tap it. If you don't see this, navigate to Settings > General > Profiles.
- In the Profile section, select the downloaded certificate.
- Tap Install in the top right corner.
- If prompted, enter your lockscreen passcode.
- A warning may appear about the certificate not being signed or trusted by Apple. Tap Install again.
Step 3: Trust the Certificate
- After the certificate is installed, navigate to Settings > General > About.
- Scroll to the bottom and tap Certificate Trust Settings.
- In the Enable Full Trust for Root Certificates section, find the certificate you just installed and toggle it on.
Your certificate is now installed and trusted, allowing you to access secure websites or networks that require the certificate.
Note: Depending on the iOS version, the instructions may vary slightly, but the general steps remain the same
To install an SSL certificate on an Android device, follow these steps:
Step 1: Download the Certificate
- Download the Certificate file (usually a .crt or .pem file) to your Android device using a browser or email.
- Once downloaded, open the Files app and locate the downloaded certificate.
Step 2: Install the Certificate
- Go to your device's Settings.
- Navigate to Security or Security & Location (depending on your Android version).
- Scroll down and tap Encryption & credentials or Install from storage.
- Select Install a certificate (you may see CA certificate, VPN or Wi-Fi certificate options, depending on your needs).
- Choose CA Certificate for SSL purposes, then tap Install from device storage.
- Browse to find the certificate file you downloaded and select it.
- If prompted, enter your device PIN or security pattern to confirm the installation.
Step 3: Name the Certificate
- When prompted, give the certificate a name, like "LGAT" or any descriptive name.
- Press OK to finish the installation.
Step 4: Trust the Certificate
- Once the certificate is installed, it will be trusted by the system for apps and browsers that require it.
Note: These steps might vary slightly depending on the Android version and device model. If the option for installing certificates isn’t visible, you may need to search for Install from storage in the settings search bar
Install Certificate Instructions for Windows using Edge Browser
- Click the Download Certificate/ button below.
- After downloading, open the file in Internet Explorer.
- The Certificate Information window will open, select Install Certificate.
- Click Next.
- Select the option Place all certificates in the following store.
- Click Browse and select the folder Trusted Root Certification Authorities, then click OK.
- Click Next and then Finish.
- Click Yes on the security warning.
- Tick “Never warn me again” and click “Continue to page.”
Install Certificate Instructions for Firefox
- Click the Download Certificate button below to save the file to your computer.
- When prompted, tick Trust this CA to identify websites.
- Tick Trust this CA to identify email users.
- Click OK.
Important: Firefox uses an independent certificate store. You will also need to install the certificate in a native browser like Chrome, Edge, or Safari to ensure other apps/programs function correctly.
